Windows ME
in the last week of May Windows 98 started to get buggy and would keep crashing every now and then. On June 2nd i installed Windows 2000 hoping the pc would work fine after the new installation of the OS. However, win2k only ended up creating more errors. And on top of that i lost all my emails. Yeah it was my fault... i saved the wrong directory. In C:\Program Files folder there is a directory called Outlook Express. Naturally everyone would assume that all the data is stored in that directory. So i saved that one. Apparently the morons at Microsoft decided to keep the Outlook Express data in :
I did not have any disk in the a: drive. damn damn damn. skid copied the sys files from a start up disk to c drive and it worked after that. everything seemed fine.. and perfect. untill i tried to run an mpeg. or an avi. Windows Media Player would just freeze the computer. tried to reinstall the Media Player or uninstall it... but there was no such option. So back up everything again, format c, and then reinstall Windows ME. and this time it wont detect the damn Video Card. Currently i am running on 256 Colors. it wont go higher than that. ati.com says the windows cd comes with the latest drivers for the card i have. so cant do anything about the driver. cant even friggin play Quake right now. but thankfully Transport Tycoon works ;o)
this whole month was spent trying to fix my computer : Pentium 233 MMX , 96 SDRAM, 11 GB Hd, Monster Voodoo, SB Live, 30X CD-ROM.
but i am so so sooo sick of it now. hopefully by the end of this week, or maybe next week, i'll have a brand new Celeron II 550 Mhz CPU. Ofcourse a new mother board goes with it. and also a new Video Card.. i'm thinking Voodoo 3. all in all, i dont want to spend more than $500.
i hope i get a decent job in Toronto.. went to work on 24th and 25th. Western Inventory Services it was fun... on sat went at 545 and came home at 11. on sunday it was from 445 to 1030. both times we went to Bata stores.. in Lincoln Heights Mall and then to the one in Bayshore Mall. the job is fun.. not boring at all. and the air conditioners are on.. music playing in the background. cool. we get a break of 15 minutes. Daneel, Natalie, Azadeh, Zeeshan, and me.. we all went together on saturday. and then on sunday it was us plus other people cuz the store was three times as large. Rob, the supervisor, sent me in the back storage room to do the last inventory. we have to punch in the SKUs from each product and come up with a total price and quantity. the hand-held Wisard already has the inventory data fed into it's hardrive so we just punch in the SKU using the keypad and it calculates the price and keeps updating the price and quantity for each shelf. each shelf is different... it can have only one line.. or can go upto 6 lines. Of all the jobs i have done uptil now, Pennysaver, JetForm, Quick Food, Quick Convenience, NCS... JetForm was the most fun.. and after that its this Western Inventory one. the most horrible one was at Quick Convenience in Vanier... just terrible.. university [5 courses] plus 4 hrs every weeknite. terrible. but i earned a lot there.. worked for 5 or so months.
well thats about it.. i'm using a crippled pc right now. WIndows ME looks cool..and feels good too.. but its not working properly right now :o(

the art of channel-flipping
soccer was really fun. all the merivale ppl were there.. met all of 'em and then played and we were losing 1 - 0 right till the end.. but then shooker passed the ball to one of my team-mates by mistake.. u know how it happens.. everyone's playing and the other person would start saying "here here" and u just pass the ball to him thinking hes in your team.. but hes from the opposite team instead.. and was just tricking you.. everyone falls for that. remember robin and ishmael ? they were wearing the exact same clothes.. black jean and white t-shirt... one was in my team, the other in the other team.. and i passed to the wrong one a couple of times hehe. ya.. so we got the pass, and then goall !!! and so its tied at one-one.. and then managed to score yet another goal... yay.. but by then most of the players had left and so it doesnt really count as a winning goal.. but its fun nonetheless... oh stupidly.. i just went to play without eating anything.. like when u came online, i had woken around then.. and then just took a bath and then left to play.. drank a coke on the way thinking that i wont be hugnry cuz i ate a _lot_ the nite before.. but i was soo hungry.. and got a headache too.. stupid stupid mistake.
this teacher in merivale.. he caught me in the basement near the computer labs and said ' youre not from this school ' and i wasnt.. and its illegal to enter the school like that.. i just went in to get a drink of water.. so he told me to leave rite away cuz i was trespassing and if he sees me again he'll take me to the main office and then they will " deal with me ". hehe..
i came home.. ate and then read a novel.. went on the pc.. played.. and then at 7 started watching a hockey match between Phillidelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins.. normally a hockey match has 3 periods.. each 20 minutes long. since these are the quarter finals.. if no one wins, then they go into overtime.. those are 20 minutes too.. only thing is, whoever scores first in the over time wins the game.. the penguins scored first and then the flyers scored in the 2nd period.. and then match went into overtime.. no one scored.. another overtime.. no score.. another one.. no result.. and then another.. still no score.. and then in the fifth overtime, the flyers scored and won the game.. so i got up at 2:30 in the morning..... hehehe.. 7.5 hours long... it was the third longest game in the history of ice-hockey.. the top two were in 1933, and 1936. it was a really good match tho.. i enjoyed it..
digital tv sux.. when u flip channels, it take two long seconds for the screen to appear. ugh !!!

friday... woke up at 330 pm. laundry day for me today. had to use AMEX again.. cuz i forgot the debit card @home. NCS says they'll get back to me about my job there. i called and asked if they wanted me to come on Saturday. oh and my ex-employer had a baby girl last week :o)
the ILOVEYOU virus [well technically its a worm] has caused $1 billion in damages [heard that on cnn] sheesh.. originated from phillipines.. spread all over the world.. and infected only MS Outlook Express. haha.. funny.. people dont learn do they ? Melissa virus was an email attachment too.. and everyone just opened it.. and now this was an email attachment too.. and people still opened it. losers.

i should be in the bus right now.. or standing @ the bus stop waiting for 117... but i woke up and just went on the pc.. and i dont want to goto algebra at all. i've skipped that class so many times. will have to study really hard for the exam. heres the schedule :

lots of breaks during exams. so thats good. first exam is of physics... last exam is of physics. almost a month left before the exams are finished and am free... well for a while. cuz have to take summer school. probably 69217 algebra and something else. and i also want to work.. make some $, upgrade pc among tons of other things. but as i've said earlier, we make so many plans... but rarely act on them.
Romeo Must Die is a highly entertaining movie. the fights are superb.. Jet Li is really good in martial arts.. i wonder who will win if Jackie Chan and Jet Li are to fight each other in real life.. they're both really really fast. They should make a movie with Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Russel Wong, and Chow Yun Fat in it. now thats something everyone will go see. i was looking for some pictures on the Net from the movie.. but didn't find any good ones. the official website uses Flash Macromedia.. personally i think Flash is just a waste of technology.. i hate it. too slow and annoying. normal HTML is the best. tweak it the way you want.. yes i know it doesn't have any interactivity with the user/audience... but hey you can always slap on some javascript and still keep it neat, clean and unslippery-ish [Flashed sites feel slippery for some reason]
going through my Inbox [Outlook Express] yesterday, i noticed an e-greeting card sitting there since the 15th of March. and i still hadn't viewed it. i'm slacking off soo much in emails.. one of my close friends got an email address in pakistan and he emailed me yesterday swearing and all that cuz i replied only once to his gazillion emails.sorry gypsy [if you're reading this] one more month... and then i'll be sleeeeepoing and emailing/icq-ing and playing quake. for a while only. i think the summer term starts in may something. there are two terms.. each only one month long. one course in one month. ieech. thats gonna be pretty horrible. right now, one course spans over 4 months.. and its still loads of work. i wonder what summer will be like.
i've noticed that i'm too arrogant sometimes. and also really mean. and the second i say something which was inappropriate.. my inner voice yells : "oh you idiot !!! now why did u say that !!". and i'm vulernable.. so so vulnerable. whenever something happens i end up envying seraph.. that moron doesnt care about anyone around him.. keep to yourself.. ignore the rest.. go home and take refuge into cyberspace. actually, once when i had an argument at home, i closed the door to my room [its always open.. i never close it.. unless am pissed at something or someone] so closed the room, and started playing Quake on full volume.. ho ho ho.. that was fun !!! channel all your anger to some bloke playing on the internet from god-knows-where and get up refreshed and with an empty-care-free mind.
i really have to start eating regularly. ever since january [when ramadhan finished] my eating habits have deteriorated steadily. like tuesday.. i woke up, drank two glasses of juice.. went to university, ate a TacoBell Chicken Burritto + coke, then Sprite, then came home, another glass of juice, then went to the movie with ïÑÃÂõHåÇkËr and leo.. and ate tons of popcorn there. home and another pepsi and thats it for the day. now isnt that pathetic ? and right now.. woke up and havent had breakfast yet. thats why my mom hates to leave us alone at home.
back in saudia, two of my friends were really really close to their brothers. arslan, romi, and jojji.... always together. and then ammar and yasir.... and now here its dumpty and mythist. but its really awkward for me.. i mean.. every person is different right.. everyone has a different personality.. and u know that you can talk to person A about subject M but not talk to person B about M. and if A and B happen to be siblings... and also really close.. then naturally B will know about M. and thats what you wanted to avoid.. and believe me... if you want to keep a secret.. dont tell it to anyone. thats the bitter lesson i learned in highschool... a secret is no longer a secret if anyone else knows about it. cuz the way this world is now... very few ppl wud keep it to themselves. this is what happens... person C is your best friend.. someone you trust.. and so you tell C about subject N. and C also has another best friend, D. so C goes to D and theyre talking about whatever and then they stumble upon subject N. and C will say to D, guess what blahblah told me.. but you have to promise me that you wont tell anyone. and D promises. and C tells D because C trusts D and knows that D will not blab to anyone.. but D also has a best friend, person E. and so D tells it to E after extracting another so-called promise.. and before you know it, everyone knows everything there is to know about N. and somewhere along this chain.. ppl added whatever they wanted.. and if you just cannot keep it in yourself and just have to tell someone.. then go to some chat room and blab away. or to someone on icq.
actually highschool was a big learning experience for me. i had recently moved from saudia.. and to canada.. different people.. different moods.. different everything. and to switch to this kind of culture and surrounding was not easy... you try to find your place and do a lot of stupid things along the way. and thats what i did. i remember sitting in the computer labs in merivale with boboodi way back in 97 and boboodi saved the day by telling me something about subject O. shivers run down my spine when i think of what wouldve happened if i hadnt met him there at that time... ieech.
gonna go eat.. today is a long day in uni.. classes from 1030 - 800.

why cant i goto sleep ? i need sleep.. everyone needs sleep.. and yet i cannot force myself to goto sleep... i just lie there starring at the ceiling.. and then come back on the pc after a while.. i know i need sleep.. i shud get 7 or 8 hours of sleep everyda.. and yet it never works out like that.. and then on weekends i sleep for 12 hours or more. and thats refreshing :o))

hehe.. am editing this page using Microsfot Visual J++. these machines in Herzberg Physics Computer labs dont seem to have Frontpage installed on them.. but Visual J++ seems fine too.. it might change the meta tags of this page... but who cares about those.. oh.. my jacket is too warm.. and too thick.. i was like sweating when i came here in the lab.. haha poor guy beside me must be smelling nice smells... wait thats disgracing myself... heh nope i aint smelling =P ok just found the first annoying thing about this program.. i changed the font of only the smily face but when i started writing the next word which was "ok", it was writing it in red bold fonts.. sux
i had algebra right now and then went to get a hot chocolate.. had an encounter with hyundai.. hehe i call him that.. its this guy in Carleton who doesnt know who i am by face but he wants to met me for some reason... weird ppl in this world these days.. his reason for it is god knows what.. funny thing is, i know who he is.. but he aint 100% sure.. i let him think that i was someone else for like a month or so... and then finally when it was just too too hillarious i told him i aint that guy you think i am. hahah.. the response was : " kewl " [lol] and now today as i was walking towards the place to buy hot chocolate he was was sitting on some bench working.. and then looked up and started to look back down but then looked back up.. hehehe.. i, on the other, hand just kept walking as if everything was normal and that i dont know anyone in my field of vision... but surely i'm gonna get an icq msg today saying "were you near the library at this hour ?" i dont think i'll give him a staright yes/no [its too funny to stop this madness by giving him a definite answer] but as alidhooh once said i think i will "lie without lying" which is a pretty bad habit by the way... its decieving the other person
by the way, alidhooh woke me up today... he got off work at 6 something and then took the bus here and reached my house by 7 am.. and then woke me up.. i remember him messing around with my Multimedia Cds and i think he borrowed Sixth Sense and Frontpage 98... dont entirely remember what cds it were.. and then after a couple o minutes.. after picking up his bag, he left.. and i went back to sleep for 45 minutes... yep i eventually slept last nite..have calculus class in 15 minutes or so.... lalalalal ok this is enough.. later
